The city of Dortmund, which has a population of 615.000, marks the east end of the Ruhr Region and this the former home of German steel and coal industry which has now being replaced by services and high-tech industries. Many of the heavy-industry sites have been converted into tourist attractions and there are many attractions for the visiting fans to see including a number of medieval churches and heritage museums. The 'Westfalenstadion' stadium was originally built for the 1974 world cup finals. The stadium has been given a very impressive facelift especially of the Word Cup 2006 finals and will now hold a capacity of 66,900.
